According to NewTeeVee, a series of Hollywood studies have filed suit against the company claiming that the software violates copyrights they own – despite, it would appear, the fact that the software not only retains the digital restriction management placed upon a DVD but adds a whole new layer of restrictions of its own when used to rip a commercial disc.

The court hearing the case has ordered that RealNetworks suspend distribution of the RealDVD package until this Tuesday, to allow the presiding judge to review all the paperwork before making a decision. While this isn't much of a surprise, it certainly casts the company's latest software venture in a bad light – and prevents people who have got their hands on codes for free trials from downloading the software until the judge gives the go-ahead.

With many freely available packages on the 'net that offer all the advantages of RealDVD with none of the DRM – and no pretensions as their legality – it's hard to see RealNetworks gaining much support from the community. That said, it's a hard one for the studios to argue too: despite the software ostensibly being designed to remove copy protection systems present on commercial DVDs, the software is expressly designed not to make it easy to copy major movies but instead merely to make the process of watching films you have legally purchased easier and more convenient.

"I`m afraid I have badly sprained my ankle in a skydiving accident. Therefore, all of the current films in production must be put on halt for now seeing as I`m on crutches and a walking boot. Until then, I will be lying around the house watching Jon and Kate Plus Eight and eating Ben and Jerry`s."

This means the filming of Molly and Welcome to Alllenswood is on hold until Miss Hollyman`s ankle is healed.

Genau zwei Wochen sind vergangen. Du schweigst mich an. Keine Smileys, keine Zeichen der Freude, kein Ansprechen auf Scherze. Ich hoffe, du bist heute einfach nur mit dem falschen Bein aufgestanden. Aber in solchen Situationen schiesse ich gerne mal übers Ziel hinaus, interpoliere gute und schlechte Aussagen...

In den zwei vergangenen Wochen dachte ich, dass es kaum perfekter sein könnte, jetzt beginnt das ach so starke Fundament plötzlich zu bröckeln. Ich frage dich, was los sei. Du ignorierst meine Frage. Zeigst mir die kalte Schulter, gibst sogar bissige Antworten auf andere Fragen. Ein einfaches "Gute Nacht" entlässt mich in die Ungewissheit. Hätte ich nachhaken sollen?

Ich habe Angst. Du hast mir zwei Wochen gegeben, mehr nicht? Langweile ich dich schon? Ich bin zu unsicher. Kann dir keinen festen Halt geben, wenn du mir keinen gibst. Wir könnten uns gegenseitig stützen, aber willst du das auch? Aber wenn ich dich dies alles fragen würde, dann würde ich es wohl zerbrechen. Die Brücke ist noch zu schwach für so eine schwerwiegende Frage, sie würde einstürzen.

Es ärgert mich, dass ich wegen sowas gleich anfange zu schwanken. Ich weiss, dass es dumm ist. Du wirst nicht einfach alles aufs Spiel setzen, nur weil du einen schlechten Tag hattest. Aber ich bin trotzdem etwas traurig darüber, dass du nicht mit mir reden möchtest. Mich plötzlich so abblitzen lässt. Und ein wenig Angst ist immer vorhanden, wie bei jedem Menschen. Ich möchte dir die gleiche starke Schulter bieten wie du sie mir bietest. Zwei Felsen in der Brandung des Lebens. Aber wenn schon so eine kleine Welle soviel Stein abträgt... Ich sollte etwas mehr Selbstvertrauen zeigen, das weiss ich.

Morgen wird alles anders aussehen. Welche Laus dir auch immer heute über die Leber gelaufen ist, morgen ist sie weit weg. Du wirst behaupten, dass du gestern einfach nicht ganz du selbst warst. Wer weiss, vielleicht wurmt es dich ja sogar, dass ich nicht mehr so viel Zeit für dich habe und hast mich deshalb ungewollt verletzt. Und ich werde über meine ängstlichen Gedanken lachen.

GENEVE (1ED) - At 0600 hrs yesterday, scientists at the Large Hadron Collider announced that their worst fears were  realized when the collission of sub-atomic particles just shy of the speed of light resulted in the creation of several blackholes at different scales. Following a plea by scientists, major news corporations and newspapers have decided to not publish the news so as to not create havoc amongst the concerned masses.

"We do not know how many black holes have formed," says a scientist at the LHC on the condition of anonymity, "but we believe there to be more than one". Top sources at the LHC claim that the scale of the black holes poses no credible threat. But as the energy of the colliding particles increases, the size of the possible black holes will increase exponentially, threatening the safety of the entire world.

The chances of this happening were reported to be one in 5 million before the experiments began. But the odds had been going up ever since the Large Hadron Collidor began operation. "We realized early on that our calculations on how the apparatus should behave were off," says the scientist, "and we had to revise the estimates almost every hour due to the unpredictable manner in which the LHC was operating". When asked why the potentially dangerous experiment was allowed to continue, a spokesman for the LHC said that the huge sum of money invested into the idea could not be forsaken at the slightest dab of concern.

Conception and construction of the LHC cost approximately £3.5 billion over nearly a decade. Scientists hoped to find the ellusive Higgs Boson particle by colliding sub-atomic particles at very high speeds. The Higgs Boson is the particle which physicists believe to be responsible for the mass of things. The Higgs Boson has never been found although some of modern physics rests upon its shoulders. Conditions were set-up at the LHC that replicate the state of the universe when the big-bang had just occured . The LHC was cooled down for weeks so as to transform it into one of the coldest places in the universe and subatomic particles raced along its 27 km circumference to accelerate towards the speed of light.

"When the experiment first began," says the scientist, "the odds of finding the Higgs Boson were considerably higher than those of creating a black hole. But the revised odds after only a day of operation made the creation of black holes more likely. Many mathematicians expressed their concern and wanted the LHC to be shut down until the math was revised". Despite the concern, the LHC was allowed to operate further due to two major reasons.

"If we were to stop operations, the hysteria created would make it unlikely for the LHC to resume atleast in the near future. Also, there was no contingency plan to halt the operations. Thats the one thing that we didn't plan".

Frankie Boyle, a regular contributor to BBC's Channel 2 recently said, "These black holes are the worst possible kind of black holes. Everybody is going to slowly move towards Switzerland". In response to a debate about the importance of the new discoveries promised by the LHC, Mr. Boyle said, "I'm sure they'll find some interesting things about protons. But I may add, I don't give a shit".

1) Echelon was more than 2 years out, anyways.

2) Some of the reason for the suspension is Boyd's dependence on partners. An important paragraph  that's not getting much attention:

From the beginning, we strategically designed Echelon to be developed in a single phase, and this schedule adjustment allows us to preserve the holistic integrity of the project. By delaying, we will be able to better manage the timing of the construction of the wholly-owned aspects of Echelon and ensure that they do not outpace the construction of the joint venture components.

That suggests that the real heart of the problem are Boyd's partners, the Morgans Group and the Shangri-La. Both of these operators plan non-casino hotels on the Echelon site, and neither has gaming revenue to support their financing.

I made a two point soup, with Zucchini, 3 small potatos, celery, some carrots and half an onion plus some chicken bullion cubes. With that I had 2 slices of pumpernickel bread and fakey cheese (junk alert!). Fakey cheese has less points per slice than real cheese does. Sometimes it's really hard not to be a junkie!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that Iran will seek "common ground" with the United States and five other world powers that have proposed incentives for Tehran to freeze its nuclear enrichment program.

NBC News, which interviewed Ahmadinejad in Iran, also said the leader of the world's fourth-largest crude oil producer believes the oil market is overvalued in part because of manipulation.

Speaking less than a week before a deadline for Iran's reply to the incentives package, Ahmadinejad told the U.S. television network that progress toward agreement with the West would depend on the sincerity of a shift in the U.S. approach to Tehran.

Western officials said after a meeting with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator in Geneva on July 19 that Tehran had two weeks to reply to an offer of a halt to new steps toward more U.N. sanctions if Iran froze the expansion of its nuclear program. That would give Iran until Saturday to reply.

"They submitted a package and we responded by submitting our own package," Ahmadinejad said through an interpreter in an excerpt of the NBC interview aired on Monday.

"It's very natural. In the first steps, we are going to negotiate over the common ground as they exist inside the two packages. If the two parties succeed in agreeing over the common ground, that will help us to work on our differences as well, to reach an agreement."

U.S. State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos called Ahmedinejad's comments "rhetoric and more rhetoric" and saying the State Department wanted a definitive response from Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, the West's designated negotiator.

"We are waiting for a definitive statement, Gallegos said. "We have stated clearly that it should come through the normal channel, which is Jalili to Solana, and the clock on the two weeks is ticking."

NBC also said Ahmadinejad denied Iran was working to produce a bomb, paraphrasing him as saying nuclear weapons are outdated.

Iran has so far ruled out a freeze to start preliminary talks or suspension of enrichment to start formal negotiations on the incentives package proposed by the six powers -- the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.

In a policy shift, a U.S. diplomat attended the Geneva talks, which Iran has characterized as a success for Iran.

On Monday, Ahmadinejad told NBC: "The main question here is whether this approach is a continuation of the old approach or is it a totally new approach.

"If this is the continuation of the old process, the Iranian people need to defend their right, its interests as well," he said. "But if the approach changes, we will be facing a new situation and the response by the Iranian people will be a positive one."

The United States has warned Iran that it will face more sanctions if it fails to meet the deadline. Washington has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails.

Asked if Iran would agree to suspend uranium enrichment in order to gain international acceptance, Ahmadinejad said Iran already enjoys "very good economic and cultural relations with countries around the world."

"For the continuation of our lives and for progress, we do not need the services, if I can use the word, of a few countries," he said.

Ahmadinejad announced during the weekend that Iran had more than 5,000 active centrifuges for enriching uranium, which suggested a rapid expansion of the nuclear work that the West suspects is aimed at making bombs.

Earlier this month, Iran rattled international markets by test-firing a series of missiles.
