Prince Rogers Nelson (born June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award-winning American Pop , Hard Rock , Funk, Rock, R&B musician. He performs simply as Prince, but has also been known by various other names, among them an unpronounceable symbol () "The Artist (Formerly Known As Prince)" and "The Prince Of Pop" (actually "disputing" this title among the critic with Justin Timberlake.

His career has spanned several styles: from his early material, rooted in R&B, soul and funk, he has consistently expanded his musical palette throughout his career, absorbing many other genres including New Wave, pop, rock, jazz, and hip hop. The distinctive characteristics of the early-to-mid 1980s work that brought him to super-stardom--including sparse and industrial-sounding drum machine arrangements, and the use of synthesizer riffs to serve the role traditionally occupied by horn riffs in earlier R&B, funk and soul music--was called the "Minneapolis sound" and has proved very influential.

Prince is a prolific artist, having released several hundred songs both under his own name and with other artists. Well known as a perfectionist, Prince is highly protective of his music. He produces, composes, arranges and performs nearly all of the songs on his albums. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

I couldn't have Michael Jackson in the Hall of Fame without adding his arch rival, Prince, as well. While both are legends in their own right, Prince has the advantage of having a more rounded sound, genre-wise, with his music being able to be categorised in a myriad of styles. One thing I feel is sometimes neglected about Prince, is his amazing guitaring, almost Hendrixesque. He's rarely seen without his famous Love Symbol guitar, whether it be in yellow or purple. A truly immense talent in the music world for the past 30 years and never short of controversy, Prince deserves to hold a place in any music Hall of Fame, and has certainly warranted his place in this one.

Ma mi ritaglio giusto un minutino per segnalarvi velocemente un video dello showcase tenuto da Meg alla Fnac di Napoli, in cui alcuni pezzi del suo nuovo album ("Psychodelice") sono stati riproposti in una veste inedita. La bellissima "Distante", ad esempio, è stata spogliata della sua veste elettronica e riproposta in versione solo piano, voce e qualche loop vocale....davvero niente male, eccola qui per voi:

Man muss allerdings auch berücksichtigen das diese Verzögerung schon seid einigen Tagen mehr oder weniger unbemerkt von den Fans eingesetzt wurde.

Last year Kanye West told journalists that his third album, Graduation, was a stadium album, designed to fill arenas and induce sing-alongs. He made no mention of the elaborate, at times convoluted broken spaceship/talking cyber-computer storyline that would accompany those filled arenas. But as is Kanye's way, one can almost always expect the most ridiculous extravagance. It's his shamelessness that has made him as lovable, as talked-about and as despicable--at times simultaneously--as any pop artist in recent memory. G.I.T.D. is a self-aggrandizing showcase for a musician with ego issues, but it's also a wondrously amusing visual experience, daring even. And, maybe more importantly, it's a vibrant musical accomplishment. Though the pink exploding volcanoes, flurrying stars and fluffy gray clouds that fill the screen behind West are hard to turn away from, I found myself LISTENING more than anything else throughout the show. On many of the songs, including an early set tour de force performance of "I Wonder" that lasted more than five minutes, West has fiddled with his tracks, slowing and speeding tempos, pushing vocoders up in the mix, revving the intensity where things might seem flat otherwise. "Flashing Lights," brightened and made even more enormous with a honking brass band, sounded like Outkast's "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" on steroids. Likewise for "Stronger" and "Can't Tell Me Nothin," two songs I've had a hard time understanding in the greater Kanye context in the past. They seemed like sore thumbs the first time around. But in a live setting, their magnificence feels earned and unforced. As I listened closely, to songs from Graduation particularly, I heard a terrific live album in the making, a thought I have to assume Kanye has already considered. If he hasn't, he should.

But about that running storyline: It's a bit of a mess. I give him credit for attempting to break rank with concert formula--he rarely if at all pandered to the crowd directly and never once broke character. But that character, a shipwrecked intergalactic traveler accompanied only by the female-voiced central computer named "Jane" is a mysterious and self-serving one. Not once, but twice, Kanye is called "the brightest star in the universe," by interstellar beings. I assume he wrote the script himself. The pulsating setpieces and breathtaking sounds, though, are more than enough to sell this show and Kanye need not harp on his own awesomeness, even in the confines of a faux-narrative.

Some other highlights: A raucous, downtuned "Get 'Em High" that was vocally screwed and chopped, a neat trick that 'Ye's microphone pulled off. He worked the same magic--this time he vocoderized without even changing mics--on "The Good Life," a song that sounds as thrilling and joyful live as it did last September. It is built for singalongs. I can still hear 20K people screaming "Lawry's!" The transition into "Spaceships," my favorite Kanye song ever, was the only one that made any actual literal sense in the context of the storyline and the crowd kept up with the song through the first verse, at least. And the expected "Hey Mama" tribute was softer and more yearning than a cynical dude like me might have guessed. He won the world over near set's end with the song. Also of note, no costume changes. Sigh.

Some lowlights: Very few actually, Kanye is getting to that point in his career where he can throw together a bulletproof setlist. "Gold Digger" was a bit lame, particularly the gold-embossed nu-Princess Leia hologram (there's Star Tours, again!) swiveling on the screen during the song. Also, after the "Hey Mama" performance, Kanye sat down on the shifting, raising platform he'd dashed across all night and stared off as Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" blared. A moment of reflection after a draining emotional evacuation. I understand the concept, but it's really time to put this Journey thing to bed. Not interesting anymore. Also, 'Ye, no "Gone"? "But if they flip sides like Anakin!" C'mon, B. Work that in there!

Approaching the show, I was far more interested in the opening acts, Lupe, N*E*R*D and Rihanna. They didn't disappoint. Lupe was fearless and more devilish onstage than I'd expected, racing between backup singers Matthew Santos (that guy needs a solo album on Merge) and Sarah Green (a Keyshia clone hiding behind big black shades) and bursting forward with killer renditions of "Paris to Tokyo," "Superstar" and "Daydreaming."

N*E*R*D were even more aggressive, a fierce six-piece, including two drummers apparently recruited by The Roots' ?uestlove. Pharrell's group tore through a seven-song set and the newest songs--"Spazz," "Anti," and "Everyone Nose"--sounded genius. Also, the inimitable Shay: Rapping well! I'm ready for Seeing Sounds to be my favorite album of the year.

Rihanna, an artist that will probably do a night at MSG on her own next year if things keep going well, was more confident and in command of her voice than I've ever seen her. It doesn't hurt that she's had some time to work things out, but her feline purr and dense stares are now more a weapon than a liability in her presentation. At one point she scorched through a medley of Beenie Man's "Who Am I?," M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" (which, if originally sung by Rihanna, probably would have been a mega-hit) and gasp, Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)." And she killed them all, bouncing along with no pomp or circumstance. And she did well with older hits "Pon De Replay" (strange to think she's the same artist who did that song) and "SOS." "Don't Stop the Music" was also reliably buoyant, a crowd favorite. When alleged paramour Chris Brown came out at set's end for the remix of her stratospheric hit "Umbrella," the moment felt perfectly planned and off-the-cuff at the same time. The kids flipped for Breezy, bless him, and though they only shared a gentle hug at song's end, we could see the fire in their eyes. Young, famous love: It still exists.

Die Momente wenn sich alle Vorzeichen und Aussagen in ein schlüssiges Ganzes fügen, fast 5 Jahre waren Notwist von den Bühnen verschwunden; ein verschwommener nachmitternächtlicher Auftritt beim Immergut 2004, irgendwann einmal Prag, defokussiert-zerstreut auf dem Melt 2007, sonst nicht viel nur im Hintergrund die Frage, was machen eigentlich...?, und die wachsende Legende. Sechs Jahre Zeit für Neon Golden zum Überwerk des deutschen Indie zu reifen, und das erwartungsvoll-geduldige Warten auf mehr aus Weilheim...

Dann wird es eine Mainacht über der Mitte Berlins, und Achers und Gretschmann stehen tatsächlich auf den ehrwürdigen Welt-Brettern der Volksbühne und beginnen mit einem leisen „Hallo“ und einem unwesentlich lauteren „Pick Up The Phone“. Erst arbeitet es sich aus statischem Rauschen hervor und klingt nüchtern, und ein bisschen fleischlos, dann singt Markus Acher „Pick up the phone and answer me at last!“ für die Fansicht und „today I will step out of your past!“ für die Nach-Neon Golden-Phase der Band. Der Moment in dem sich alles zusammenfügt.

Notwist haben nicht rundheraus den Ruf einer herausragenden Liveband, eher verzeiht man ihnen, den Theoretikern und Akribikern, wohlwollend das leicht apathische Desinteresse. Und dann gleitet „Pick Up The Phone“ über sein fahrplanmäßiges Ende hinaus, und es wird für die meiste Zeit vorbei sein, mit dem Verzeihen: Senore Acher dreht mit einem Knarzgeräusch am Poti, und die Gitarre drückt den Song in jazzigem Zupfen und lauten Schüben aus seiner Bahn heraus. Nicht extatisch, aber ein Extra. Notwist können (immer noch) soweit frei mit ihrer Musik arbeiten, dass klar wird, dass eine Emotion dahinter steht. Beruhigend.

Es geht weiter durch den Neon Golden-Parcours, „One With The Freaks“, 30 Sekunden dauert es, bis eher frenetischer Jubel den vorverfremdeten Song begrüßt, dann Pilot, bevor sich die Band an das neue Material traut: „Where In This World“ klingt etwas dünner als auf CD, funktioniert aber immer noch über den Text, und franst ebenso elaboriert wie seine Vorgänger in einen wohlgeprobten, leicht wütenden Jam aus. Das Schema des Abends. Zusammen mit der wiederkehrenden Frage: Was macht eigentlich... Console? Das zerzauste Genie steht mit zwei weißen Sticks in der Hand in der Nähe der Synthies und tut etwas, das wahlweise nach Spielkonsolenspaß oder Schattenboxen aussieht, es klingt jedenfalls richtig.

Bei etwa zwei Dritteln des Abends wird gar mit lautem Rumpeln die ganz alte Zeit hervorgeholt: „My Phrasebook“ türmt sich geradezu brachial nach all dem Neon-Golden-Gefrickel, und verstört wahrscheinlich den halben Saal: Die Stehenden im vorderen Bereich johlen begeistert, von den Sitzplätzen in ihrem Rücken wird verhalten geklatscht. „Day 7“ und „Chemicals“ komplettieren den Rückgriff, ansonsten gehört der Rest des Abends fast ausschließlich „The Devil, You + Me“: „Gravity“ gibt eine großartige erste Zugabe ab, glitzert mit den Großstadtlichtern draußen um die Wette; „Gone, Gone, Gone“ nach knapp 100 Minuten beinahe eine arg programmatische letzte: Ehe sich die Band noch einmal vom milde verhallenden Theaterhallenbeifall herausklatschen lässt, und zum tatsächlich ersten Mal „Alphabet“ live darbietet.

Dann ist es vorbei, und es bleibt die Zeit am ersten lauen Abend des Jahres mit Blick auf den Fernsehturm zu kontemplieren, was das nun für ein Zwiegespräch war, in den endlich wieder abgehobenen Hörer der Notwist'schen Bandgeschichte. Ein wenig staunende Ehrfurcht vor den lebenden Legenden, ein wenig Verwunderung diese Songs endlich einmal wieder live zu hören, arg falsch konnte es dann gar nicht mehr werden. Mit dem gelungenen neuen Material, und dem akribischen Improtainment der Songanfänge und Enden sogar gut und trotzdem, gesprungen sind sie nicht. Die Sticks und das Pilotenruder mit all der Routine der erfahrenen Liveband immer fest in der Hand. Man verzeiht es ihnen doch. Schön, sich gesprochen zu haben.

In February I decided that I would get rid of my car and instead take the bus for an hour and a half each way to work. This was brought on by a couple of things, the main one being the cost of owning a car, and my desire to take public transit if there was an opportunity to do so. But I gave up after 3 months of paying for  TTC, GO Transit, and a car because people repeatedly backed out of the deal.

This is the way my mind works, and this is the way I live my life. That's why it comes as huge shock to me when I meet people who have the exact opposite approach. A woman that works for my parents company recently told my mom in a very worried tone "Can you believe that groceries for my family this month cost me $43 more than the previous month?". How she could possibly know that it was exactly $43?. She proceeded to explain that she buys exactly the same food, of the same brands, on the same days, every month of the year and therefore is able to track her spending to the cent.

That is just one example of a conservative approach to life, but how can anyone live like that? How can you strive to eliminate all variety from your life and condense it to a series of repetitive tasks? To the point where even the food you eat is as predictable as clockwork. In similar vein I know many people who have their lives planned out for the next 5-10 years, just working the same job, the same days, the same hours, so they can eventually retire and remove one more element of potential excitement from their lives.

Some people critize my lifestyle. They can't understand what they perceve to be the reckless and haphazard way I make decisions. I don't know what I'm having for dinner tonight, I don't know what I'm doing this weekend, I don't know what hours I'll be at work next week, I couldn't tell you with any certainty that I would still be holding this job in 6 months, or where I will be living in a year. But I couldn't live any other way.

El vídeo de la intro nos puso la piel de gallina a todos. Comenzó a sonar la música, en el telón se proyectó la palabra "Bienvenidos" en diversos idiomas, el ritmo de la música se fue acelerando y de repente pudimos leer: "HYDE". Sí!! era cierto!! estábamos en un concierto de L'arc~en~Ciel!! Gritamos como locos!! Después se pudo leer "KEN", más gritos, "TETSU", más gritos, "YUKIHIRO", más gritos, "L'arc~en~Ciel", apocalíptico, ya no fueron gritos, fueron berridos XDDDDDDD Después, todo quedó en silencio, vimos cómo un gato perseguía una mariposa, el telón se iluminó y pudimos distinguir las sombras gigantes de Tetsu, Hyde y Ken!! kyaaaaaaaaa!!! qué locura!! >.<

La voz de Hyde sonó y toda la sala se estremeció, si ya sabíamos que la voz de Hyde era increíble, en este concierto os puedo asegurar que descubrí que tiene una voz más que increíble. Es asombrosa, super potente, lo envolvía todo. Me quedé con los ojos como platos 0.0

Mientras estaba embelesada mirando para esas 3 sombras maravillosas, en el telón se leyó: "3 - 2 - 1 - GO!" y se cayó el telón! Qué gran momento! Todo el mundo saltando y gritando! Ya podíamos divisar sus rostros! Ya Hyde se movía con sus andares de nena por todo el escenario y Ken sonreía tan agradable como siempre ^0^~~

Las siguientes 2 horas fueron las mejores de mi vida. ¡¡Qué conciertazo!! ¡El mejor en el que he estado sin duda!! No sólo cumplieron mis expectativas, sino que las sobrepasaron con creces! Todo fue perfecto, desde la voz de Hyde hasta el magnífico solo de guitarra de Ken al comienzo de "My Heart Draws a Dream"!! Tiraron papelitos plateados, plumas, llamas... Tetsu tiro 2 plátanos al público y Hyde 2 botellas de agua, provocando que la gente se diese de ostias en la fosa XD

Todo iba de manera espectacular hasta que, al comienzo de "Seventh Heaven", escuchamos que la música tomaba unos derroteros extraños y Hyde parecía que se olvidaba de la letra mirando hacia la zona de Ken. Nos dimos cuenta de que algo extraño pasaba. La música se paró y Hyde dijo: "Sorry, sorry!!" y desaparecieron todos del escenario, dejándonos allí con una cara de preocupación inmensa =.=
Pararon el concierto durante 10 minutos. Por megafonía dijeron que había un "problema técnico". El problema era, lo descubrimos después hablando con gente del staff, que Ken se había electrocutado T_T Nos echamos los 10 minutos gritando "Ken-chaaaan", "Larukuuuu", pateando las gradas y haciendo olas, para darles ánimo ^^ Cuando volvieron, Ken se acercó al micro y dijo con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja: "Perdonad, tuve que ir al baño" XD Es que no se puede ser más majoooo >.<

El concierto continuó en su línea como si nada hubiera pasado. Nos hicieron disfrutar como nunca. Uno de los grandes momentos fue cuando Hyde se dió su baño de masas habitual y le costó volver al escenario XD

Cada uno de ellos dió su discursillo en francés (leyendo directamente de una nota de papel hahaha), muy amigables, sobre todo Ken, que incluso nos mostró imágenes de él comiendo en París y paseando por las calles LOL

El francés de los 4 era de coña. De hecho, hubo partes que tuvieron que repetir porque no les entendíamos XDXDXDXD El más cómico, el de Hyde, me encanta la cara que puso cuando se equivocó y tuvo que repetir "dire ça" y después nos hizo el corte de manga en plan: yo no sé francés, pero vosotros no sabéis japonés y tatareáis las canciones listos! hahahaha

Lo que sí, todos notamos que Tetsu estaba muy muy serio. Razones desconocidas o.O
