When I’ve only been knitting for awhile, sewing feels like cheating. It’s over so fast

When I've only been knitting for awhile, sewing feels like cheating. It's over so fast!

A friend of mine was telling again the story of how she made a Klein bottle of bristol board and tape, so that she could cut it into two mobius strips during a talk she was giving. The rest of us in the conversation were, I feel safe saying, more of fiber artists and less of paper artists, besides which, I think anyone who knows what a Klein bottle is would know that Bristol board is not going to be the easy way to make one.

And so two days later, a re-usable deconstructable Klein bottle was born.

It uses two separating zippers to be "cut" into two mobius bands:

It's hard to put together at first, but okay once you get the trick of it. Just a word of warning if you ever want to make your own: those two bands are in position to be zipped together, and they have opposite half-twists. I did it wrong the first time, and had to cut one open and switch the twist when I finally figured out that what I had was never going to work. You can see the extra line of stitching where that happened in both of the above photos.

There are more photos, including a series of putting-it-together (but without explanation) here.

Yes, this is an amateur fan game based on Four Swords Adventures from the Zelda series. It will probably be finished before the other project and of course, since it is not my copyright it will be non-commercial and cannot be sold. The other project will not close and I am working on the main player's sprites right now. So both projects are being worked on at the same time. The game will be hosted at Yoyogames along with the demos. I was also thinking of making Wordpress my site instead of Freewebs...

If u like te race games, and the online games, but u can't play Need for Speed online because your version is pirate (a secrete between you and me: the mine is it too, :-D ), i recommend u Project Torque, a game developed by Aeria Games, where we can see varied race types, here i tell u the most known (are online, and the best, IT'S FREE!, :-D ):
Simulation: It's better if u have a Steering Wheel, because you feel the emotion of drive a real car.
Capture the Flag: Is the typical Capture the Flag game, but this time driving cars, and carrying the flag across some doors.
Esploration: This type makes me remember Mario Bros, you have drive across a open map, getting some kind of "coins", if u have more coins than your oponents when the time is over, you'll win.
Drift: Obviously, the typical "drifting", were u wating more?, xD.
Drag: Or acceleration race, is the most exciting race, close your eyes and imagine this: "You are driving your Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, the race begins, you are the first all the race round, YOU WIN THE RACE!, everybody is shouting and they are excited...and suddenly...ZUAZZ, A 18 WHEELS TRUCK COLLIDES YOU!!, WAKE UP!!!, STOP THINKING SILLY THINGS!, jajaj, is a joke that will never happen, it was just for u feel some emotion, xDD

Here are the set of cards that I was working on earlier this week. I’m holding onto one, becau

Here are the set of cards that I was working on earlier this week. I'm holding onto one, because I may use that as a swap or for my newsletter. Want some element of surprise when I do those. :) Of course, that assumes that someone is reading... hahaha!

After completing all of them, I noticed that I used the scallop edge punch on all but one of them! I guess I really like this punch. :)

Here's the first one. It was inspired by a card I saw on Splitcoast. It had a row of 5 flowers from the Bella Blossoms, cut out. 'Course, that flower is about 1-1/4" tall, and the flower from Embrace Life is about 2" tall. Heh. Anyway, I created a mask with a Post-It and used it to mask around the first flower that I stamped. I stamped again on a scrap piece and layered with dimensionals onto the first flower.

[caption id="attachment_248" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Staggered row of flowers"][/caption]

Stamp set: Embrace Life, Upsy Daisy

Ink: Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy, Apricot Appeal (first time I used this!)

Paper: Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Whisper White

Accessories: Sponge daubers, Scallop edge punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

I sponged the Bashful Blue around the outside of the petals and did one dab of the Apricot Appeal in the middle. I must have been thinking of my Crazy Shirt when I did this:

[caption id="attachment_249" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Shirt from Crazy Shirts"][/caption]

Well, sort of.

Okay, next I wanted to try spotlighting, and thought the poppy-looking flower would be good for that. Um, it looked weird, so I left it off and instead colored the flowers on the "background" paper that I created.

[caption id="attachment_251" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Mustard Poppies"][/caption]

Stamp set: Embrace Life

Ink: More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie

Paper: More Mustard, Really Rust, So Saffron, Haiku DSP

Accessories: Scallop Edge Punch, Old Olive 5/8" grosgrain ribbon

So, I tried spotlighting again, this time with the bamboo branch. I didn't actually color the "spotlighted" branch, but I used it as a background for the sentiment.

[caption id="attachment_252" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Ruby Red Bamboo"][/caption]

Stamp set: Embrace Life, Best Yet (hostess L1)

Ink: Sahara Sand, Chocolate Chip

Paper: Sahara Sand, Basic Black, Ruby Red, Whisper White

Accessories: Very Vanilla taffeta ribbon, Wide oval punch, Trio flower punch

I could have used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the branch on the sentiment, but did I? No-o-o. Instead, I stamped it maybe 5 times before it came out right.

Finally, I wanted to do a collage of the cherry blossoms. I experimented before with the white gel pen on either Regal Rose or Cameo Coral, and thought it looked cool.

[caption id="attachment_253" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Cherry blossoms"][/caption]

Stamp set: Embrace Life, Pocket Sihouettes

Ink: Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose marker, Uni-ball Signo white gel pen

Paper: Pink Pirouette, Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Whisper White

Accessories: Old Olive 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, Scallop edge punch, Vintage brads

So, maybe I'll try the Faux Linen technique again with this set (which we did at Melinda's class two weeks ago). In the meantime, happy stamping!

Let’s face it. Some days, you want to just fire your clients. You go through one too many comps, iterations or edits and you’ve had enough. It has happened to everyone at least once and I’d be lying if I said it won’t happen again; you get to the end of a project and realize that you would have made more per hour flipping burgers at McDonald’s. Thankfully, as with most common problems, there are a few simple guidelines that you can follow to help make sure that you’re never working for below minimum wage.

Due Diligence

“Experts often possess more data than judgment.” -Colin Powell

Know your role

Remember that the client will always know more about their product or service than you do. They are the expert at what they do; their problem is usually that they don’t know how to explain it well. That is where you, as the designer, step in to help. You are a graphical communications ninja, but to effectively make your, and ultimately your client’s, point you must fully understand what needs to be said.

From the outset, make it a priority to get as much information as possible about the company, their product or service, the intended audience of your work and the reason that your work needs to exist. The better prepared you are and the more information you get out of the client before you start working, the quicker your design will be accepted, and the quicker you will get paid. Use that overflow of data from the client to form a coherent picture of what you’re trying to accomplish and then use your good judgment to make something beautiful from the madness. By spending ample time collecting information, you have allowed the client to share their knowledge and participate in the project. This is a good thing. When clients feel they are part of the process they are less likely to question the design decisions you make.

Hire the right customers

“If you try and please everyone, you won’t please anyone.” -37signals

Remember that part of your due diligence is making sure that the project is a good fit for you as a designer. You cannot be everything to everyone, and if you try to be, you will not only look bad, you’ll lose money.

Remember the principle that carries the Vilfredo Pareto name: 80% of the output will come from 20% of the input. In other words, you will make 80% of your income from 20% of your clients, so focus on the good ones and fire the bad ones. Stay true to your strengths and don’t be afraid to pass on a project. In the end, everyone, including your client, will be better off.

I repeat…

Don’t try to take on every project that comes across your desk, even when you’re starting out. This will preclude a large percentage of your client problems. By picking your two or three biggest strengths and building a solid reputation, you will attract clients who are looking for a genius in your fields of choice and who, consequently, will be willing to pay well for the service.

The Harvard Business professor Michael Porter states you can hold a competitive advantage in one, and only one, of two areas: price or quality. Focus your efforts on your strengths, build a solid reputation and you’ll never be forced to compete on price again.

Communication

“The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said.” -Peter F. Drucker

Approach all communication with a Zen mind

original image by isa_adsr

Zen philosophy teaches you to approach every task with a beginner’s mind. This is simple when you’re trying to teach yourself hyper-astro-meta-particle physics, but not as easy as you think when it comes to something you do all day, every day. Try hard to put yourself in the shoes of a beginner; you will be more apt to understand and sympathize with your client’s point of view. You will also find that by using less jargon (by assuming the language of a beginner) your client will understand and internalize your point much more quickly, which in turn helps to create an evangelist for your work in your client’s organization, which always makes your life easier.

But adopting a beginner’s mind isn’t as simple as dropping your haughty design-speak in favor of a fifth grade vocabulary. You need to approach each conversation or communication as a beginner does, with no expectations and no preconceived notions. Without the benefit of assumptions or preconceived notions, you will be forced to ask more questions and in turn draw more information out of the client; and just like that, your job will have gotten easier. Disclaimer: If all this Zen stuff is too new age for you, just remember the old adage: When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.

Listen for what isn’t there

What the client says: Can you make that text just a little bigger?
What the client means: This font might be a little hard to read. What do you think?

Everyone fears the dreaded “Make this text bigger” line, and everyone (well, almost everyone) has probably cringed and then painfully capitulated. When faced with clients asking for design changes, especially from those clients who don’t have any design training (let alone a good eye for design), it’s important to check your design ego at the door and ask a few pointed questions. What you really need to find out is what the client actually means. Before doing anything to the design, pause for a moment and ask the client to explain what it is about the design that doesn’t accomplish the specific goals you outlined in the pre-work discovery meetings. (You did set specific goals, didn’t you!?)

Here are a few tips to help you get to the point:

Ask blunt questions (but tactfully). Don’t start or get hauled into arguments.

Use feature/benefit terminology and plain language, not design-speak.

Use yes/no questions that push the client to reveal what they really think (e.g. “Do you think this font is hard to read?”).

Take criticism well. (No one likes an overly sensitive artist.)

By your focusing on the goals rather than the implementation, clients will understand that you are trying to use your craft for their benefit, not just to take their money. Oh, and a note about that ego you left at the door: now is not the time to go into a diatribe about your profession or your skill as a designer. No one cares; your client just wants a functional design that they can be proud of when they show it to their boss.

Do what you said you were going to do

But don’t die by the contract. I’ve heard of many situations where clients and designers get into arguments about what was and wasn’t in the original contract. If the client comes to you with something that is obviously beyond the scope of the contract, you have a few choices:

You can do what the client wants and ask for nothing more in return.

You can refuse to do it and stick to what the original contract said.

You can try to renegotiate the contract to a new middle ground before continuing work on the project.

There isn’t any one right answer here; different situations call for different actions. If you’re not going to get badly burned by going the extra mile, it will probably be worth it (so long as the client knows you’re hooking them up). That said, sometimes the new request is outrageous and would take many, many hours to implement. In those situations, it is a good idea to be open, talk it through with the client, make it known that you’d love to help but it would be too much of a time commitment (you do have other clients, after all) for the current numbers to work out.

If you approach things with an open mind, with a positive attitude (instead of a demanding one) and on an even playing field, the client will generally help you out with a bit more cash. And if they are livid at the thought of paying you more money for more work, well, they may have just singled themselves out as a client who needs to be fired.

Admit it when you screw up

Then do everything possible to make it right. Mistakes are okay; everyone makes them from time to time. Hopefully you’re not a habitual offender. But the general rule is: the sooner you recognize the mistake and take the heat for it, the better off you’ll be in the long run.

By letting more time pass, the mistake only grows and becomes more difficult to cover up, and the heat that was originally a small and controlled campfire is now the roaring flames of hell licking at the bottoms of your feet. Get it out of the way, clear the air and get on with it. Your client will appreciate your candor and honesty, even if he or she isn’t that happy about the problem itself.

Parting Shot

Hopefully you’ve started to catch on here. Most of the things that can be counted as “common problems” are fairly easy to circumvent, especially if you put in your time doing your due diligence on the front end and adopt a firm but cooperative attitude in your client communications.

Remember, clients aren’t supposed to be a burden. They are a blessing (they are buying the bread on your table after all). But the relationship should always be mutually beneficial. You are getting paid to do what you, presumably, love to do, and the client is getting something beautiful and functional. Hopefully, you’re both learning a little something along the way.

For the best in design services i found these guys very enthusiatic and they deliver young designs.

Something has just occurred to me. About six weeks ago, I wrote a series of posts about the renova

Something has just occurred to me. About six weeks ago, I wrote a series of posts about the renovation of my formerly regrettably pink bathroom. These posts were a hodgepodge of details about the actual "transformation" or renovation that was taking place in my bathroom at my home.

During the majority of the project my shower was out of commission and I was having to used the shower in the basement of my office building of which I have the fortune (misfortune?) of working in the property management office and have, therefor, free reign over/access to the shower in question.

Now, I'm a dude, which should say enough, right there, but I'm also Gay, relatively new to the acceptance thereof, and a "gay virgin". Translation, I'm horny most of the time. Using this shower in the basement of my office building was, at least the first few times, a sexually arousing proposition for me. It is a private shower, in a locked room so it wasn't that exciting, but it provided some opportunities to fantasize and masturbate. These experiences provided fodder for the blog and while I was writing about the remodel of my bathroom I was also writing about these experiences which means my tags for these posts were things like, "Male Nude, Nude Male, Gay Sex, Fantasy, Fantasizing, Masturbate, etc."

To this day, when I look at my blog stats, those "Bathroom Transformation" posts are heavily hit. And when I look at the terms that lead people to my blog on those same days, it's usually things like "Male Nude, Nude Male, Gay Sex, Fantasy, Fantasizing, Masturbate, etc."

So today I was looking at my blog stats - I guess I have a secret fantasy to become a popular blog... ist? Is Bloggist a word? and so I watch my stats closely - and suddenly I had this mental image:

I'm sitting at home in my chair, feet up, naked, looking for some "inspirational material". So I log onto WordPress and I do a search for "Male Nude". Surely I'll at least get some nice pictures to look at right? Maybe I'm in a certain kinda mood, looking for a certain kinda something when I see it. "Bathroom Transformation, Day 6". Maybe this is what I want to see. Maybe I like a little raunch, or a little water sports, or a little... Whatever someone might be looking for, and interested in when they see "Male Nude" and "Bathroom Transformation" in the same context.

So I click on the link. Maybe I'm already a little excited. Maybe I'm partially hard and I'm already oozing. Maybe I've already got my dick in my hand and I'm ready to go. And there at the bottom of the screen I see the very top of a picture. Let me scroll down to that! Wait! What the--! It's a- A BATHROOM. What the hell kinda smut is this guy writing. Oh shit. This post is about renovating a bathroom.

The son of a bitch pulled a bait and switch on me!

But at least I helped him boost his numbers for today!

And if nothing else? For that, I thank you! Oh, and, did I mention... I gotcha again!

In this modern world and era, construction is the one being considered as the foundation of all thin

In this modern world and era, construction is the one being considered as the foundation of all things. When we speak of construction in building for instance, we refer to the accumulation of structures needed and required to the edifice of a certain real property. In doing so, we are expected to provide the focal point of the economic progress of an organization or nation per se. A construction project management is somewhat similar to ordinary project management except for the fact that what we consider in this specific type of management is from the construction light of view.

This may actually include the cost of construction as well as the construction area preference. As a matter of fact, construction project management may seem so difficult but it can actually be simplified by way of the construction project management software readily available nowadays. Such software can really help us in terms of providing us the information that we need about the project that we are handling.

Furthermore, we can assess and evaluate the budget that we are going to use for a particular construction project if we have software intended for construction management. This is essential so that we can still keep an eye on some complicated projects. Thus, it is safe to say that software for construction management is a good tool in estimating construction expenses. However, we have to make sure that the software which we have can give us better management on construction data.

Indeed, to be successful in the realm of construction project, we have to acquire any of the available construction project management software available in this day and age. Moreover, we also have to have the basic knowledge needed in managing such software. After all, any software can’t work efficiently without better management.

Ahora mismo se están construyendo los aspectos externos del sitio. La infraestructura de gestión de rutas en mapas ya ha sido desarrollada.

En este blog iré publicando provisionalmente los materiales que tenemos intención de subscribir.

Imagine this scenario, your technical seduce agrees to assignments from three of your consumer groups, all due on the yet . It is probable that not all of these deadliness will be met.

team members will parade ppassive-aggressive behavior. They will agree with you to your face, but then walk away and purposefully disregard the total conversation. When other collaborate members boss them around, they quickly submit.

If you addicted to getting along or you know someone who is, there is help.

Dublin’s Mayday 2004 saw thousands of opponents to fortress Europe beaten away by riot cops and water cannons. Days later, RED ARCHIVE, a strange OPEN communication space seeking all inputs, was asking: What is art, what is politics?

As activists, we used this space to communicate and build in and out of, to wander from and bring people to, to share critical ideas, to widen the discussion. Our ongoing war is one of communication against today’s culture of ignorance and apathy. Seven million people continue to die needlessly every year, perhaps our actions helped?
